Prof. dr. Michel R.H. Mandjes

Scientific advisor

Prof. dr. Michel MandjesSince 2000, Michel Mandjes is professor in probability theory and operational research. As from 2004 he is working at the University of Amsterdam. Before he has been with KPN Research, Bell Labs (Lucent Technologies), Universiteit Twente and the Centre for Mathematics and Information Science (CWI).

The research of Michel Mandjes focuses on the use of stochastic techniques in operational research. In general, these applications relate to situations with scarce resources and random customer behavior. Typical situations are the optimization of a supply system, a service system or a production system. In addition to this, he also develops methods for cost-effective network design, under given minimum service requirements.

In relation to his work for IBIS UvA, he is working on the development of tools for staffing and scheduling, that can be used in various business environments (such as hospitals, call centers, etc.).
