Role of research at IBIS UvA
As a part of the University of Amsterdam, IBIS UvA aims to make valuable contributions to the scientific development of industrial statistics. The underlying idea is that the combination of scientific research and its application in consultancy activities leads to fruitful interactions. Many research topics are inspired by problems encountered in practice, whereas clients from the business community profit from the results of scientific research.
Key research programmes
Industrial statistics: control charting methodology, measurement system analysis, multivariate process control, exploratory data analysis.
Six Sigma methodology: rational reconstruction and grounding of Six Sigma's methods and techniques.
Business economics: Six Sigma and innovation, Lean Six Sigma in healthcare and finance.
International center of expertise
IBIS UvA plays a key role in the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS). Members of the institute are frequent speakers at international conferences and symposia, act as associate editor for several academic journals, and have received important international awards for their research. Since 2000, IBIS UvA has supported 9 academic promotions. The institute publishes around 8 peer reviewed academic papers per year, besides a number of publications in the professional literature. Members have published 5 books on Statistical Process Control and Lean Six Sigma.
